Autotransplantation can be defined as the transplantation of embedded, impacted or erupted teeth from one site to another in the same individual into extraction sites or surgically prepared sockets when a suitable donor tooth is available. With this technique, a missing permanent tooth can be successfully replaced by your own available tooth. Eg. A decayed first molar can be replaced by third molar. The transplanted tooth can regenerate bone, enhance the maintenance of attached gingiva with a natural shape, which leads to good esthetic results. unlike the dental implant, which often requires bone grafting to fulfill all necessary functional and esthetic demands.
